Bilirubin is a yellow pigment your liver clears from your blood, so it shows how well your liver is working.
Total Bilirubin gives you a snapshot of the whole yellow pigment floating in your bloodstream. Think of it as a quick read on whether that pigment is moving through and being cleared as expected.
