About the reference range
Urine protein is usually reported as absent or graded on a dipstick (+, ++, +++). It is not given as a trimester range. When needed, a 24-hour urine protein or a spot protein-creatinine ratio can measure it. Your obstetrician's reading in the clinical context applies.
What to discuss with your obstetrician
Report any headaches, vision changes, or swelling of your face or hands to your obstetrician at once. Also report upper belly pain. These signs can go with protein in the urine in pre-eclampsia. They need urgent assessment.

- Is some protein in urine normal during pregnancy?
- A small amount of protein in the urine is normal in pregnancy. This is due to faster kidney filtering. But levels above accepted thresholds are not a normal pregnancy change. They are worth reviewing with your obstetrician.
